How County Crime Data Is Compiled
County-level crime counts are drawn from FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, Crime in the United States, Table 10 (Offenses Known to Law Enforcement by County). Per-capita rates use the formula (offenses ÷ population) × 100,000, with population figures from a separately matched Census join where Table 10 omits a resident denominator.
